Tryon Horse Show

This weekend we went to Tryon so Alexis could enter her first horse show. It was perfect weather and great to be outside. Alexis did absolutely great! She won several ribbons including one first place! I have broken the show video into two parts. Below is a compiled video of the entire show.

This is a short video of the two jumping courses she took on Baytoven. She won fourth place in the first round and in very last jumping course she won first place. I hope you enjoy it!

Maddron Bald Loop Backpacking Trip

Alexis, Bryanna, and I got a chance to take another backpacking trip recently. This time we drove over to the Tennessee side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and did a loop hike starting out at the Cosby campground. If you want all of the details, take a look at the GORP site.

It really was nice that weekend! The weather was just about perfect, until it rained hiking out on Sunday. We didn’t see very many people either, which was rather surprising. I just can not believe how great the girls did. They carried their own pack each of the three days, and we logged almost 18 miles on the trails! Here are a few pictures of our weekend outing:

Easter Eggs

Sorry these are a little late getting uploaded, but we have been busy. This Easter was fairly ‘low-key’ since Kristi is really busy preparing for her big EMS certification exam and graduation. We still had a great time! I only took a few pictures, but we dyed 50 eggs! I think that is the most we have ever done, but we still ended up eating them all.

Backpacking in Jones Gap

Last weekend Alexis, Bryanna, and I went on our first backpacking trip for this year. Valerie’s brother Scott came up from Charleston and met us at the trail head. We hiked in and camped about 2 miles from the parking lot. We did quite a bit of hiking on Saturday and hiked up to see a great waterfall on Sunday. Our best estimate is that we logged more than 17 miles total with very little trouble.

It really was a lot of fun, and we are already making plans for another trip in the very near future.

Christmas 2008

We had a very relaxing Christmas holiday this year. For a change we decided not to spend a fortune on gifts, opting instead to spend time together with family. I think it is one of the best things we have done for Christmas in a while! Valerie, Alexis, Bryanna, and I were lucky enough to have two weeks off together but unfortunately Kristi had to work most of the time. Valerie’s brother Rick (aka Uncle P) made it up here for Christmas morning, which was a treat. We also drove out to Oklahoma to see mom. Laura was there visiting so we got to be with her along with my Tata, Uncle Larry, Christopher and Elizabeth. Overall I would say everything was absolutely perfect. The only downside was that Kristi was unable to spend a lot of the time with us.

Grandpa Babb’s Memorial Cruise

This Thanksgiving we had to opportunity to go on a cruise and celebrate the life of Matthew Babb (aka Grandpa Babb or Dad). Many members of the Babb family were able to attend including us, which was really great. We had a very nice time catching up as well as talking about past family trips and events.

We took a bunch of pictures, and so did everyone else. I have copies of all of them, and plan to put them all on a photo cd/dvd to send out to all of the family members. Until then, I am posting a few shots of the fun we all had.

Tubing at Deep Creek with Mom

We sure did have a lot of fun while mom was here visiting. Among other things, we went canoing at Lake Fontana, and Tubing at Deep Creek. I really think everyone had a wonderful time. Mom really enjoyed the canoe ride out to our favorite little jetty. Laura was indulged by some sort of mud bath by Alexis and Bryanna (yuck!). It was also the first time mom had ever been tubing, and I really think she enjoyed every minute of it. I took far too many pictures to upload, but here a few of my favorites!

Schwiebert Reunion

For the entire week following my graduation, many members of the Schwiebert clan were here in Western North Carolina for a visit. I got to spend some time up there with everyone, and all I can say is that there is never enough time to catch up with everyone. Not only that, but time sure does fly by! To prove my point, look at the two pictures below:

The one on the left is of me holding little baby Jenna, and on the right we have her all grown up! Even though time went by quickly, it sure was great to see everyone. Here are a few pictures of some of the various activities:
